Japan Convenience Stores to open in US. FamilyMart Co., Japan's third largest chain of convenience stores, is looking to open stores in Oregon, Washington and California, according to Bloomberg.com. The Tokyo-based company has around 6,000 locations in Japan and over 3,000 in Taiwan, South Korea and Thailand. The company hopes to add 50 more stores in the US. FamilyMart's competitor in this market will be the Seven-Eleven chain run by Ito-Yokado, Co., Japan's largest retailer.
