A long-awaited announcement came yesterday that the FTC released its recommendations for amendments to the franchise rule in its aptly titled document -- Staff Report on the Trade Regulation Rule titled “Disclosure Requirements and Prohibitions Concerning Franchising and Business Opportunity Ventures – (Franchise Rule).” The FTC will accept comments on the recommendations until November 12, 2004. Some of the principal recommendations according to the International Franchise Association include the use of electronic disclosure, the elimination of the first personal meeting disclosure rule and the disclosure of franchisor-related litigation.
