It’s hard to resist the Tupperware metaphors. Last week, we posted an article on the dispute between Tupperware and some of its Canadian dealers. The dispute was highlighted on a website of the Canadian Alliance of Franchise Operators, Inc. Shortly after we posted the article, however, Tupperware filed a lawsuit against CAFO to enjoin the website from “disseminating or distributing, in any manner whatsoever, any statements or communications concerning Tupperware, its associated and affiliated companies, and its business and operation.” While the CAFO website provides information on a number of franchise companies, the Tupperware site is extensive. In response to the lawsuit, the president of CAFO, Les Stewart, provided a temporary compromise by limiting access to the Tupperware site through the use of a password available to ex-distributors and a few people in the news media. No word yet on whether this measure will satisfy Tupperware.
