Salmonella Poisoning Causes Cold Stone Creamery to Recall "Cake Batter" Ice Cream

Cold Stone Creamery recently recalled its "cake batter" flavored ice cream from its U.S. stores after several cases of salmonella poisoning were reported in connection with consumption of the ice cream. According to Earth Times, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported 14 cases of salmonella poisoning related to the "cake batter" ice cream in Minnesota, Washington, Oregon and Ohio. The cake batter for the ice cream is made by an independent supplier at a central location and then shipped to various Cold Stone Creamery locations. As discussed recently in an Australian news article, an increasing number of reports on food-borne illnesses has prompted government agencies and franchises alike to implement food preparation regulations and standards in an effort to minimize contamination and the occurrence of food-borne illnesses.
